Mayan Treasures is a diversified tour package that includes the main areas of interest in Guatemala and allows you to see the principal archeological sites in Guatemala and Honduras.
Day 1: Arrival in Guatemala, Overnight in Antigua...
Guatemala Travel Mall welcomes you the El Mundo Maya, the beautiful land of lakes, volcanoes and ancient Mayan Culture. Upon arrival at the International Airport of Guatemala City, one of our drivers will wait for you at the exit of the airport to transfer you to your hotel in Antigua. Meet and greet your guide in Antigua. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Antigua.
Day 2: Antigua...
Enjoy breakfast, then your guide will meet you for a city tour of Antigua. Enormous churches monasteries and colonial mansions from the 17/18th century line the city's cobblestone streets. UNESCO declared Antigua patrimony to mankind. The guided tour also includes a visit to the music museum and the textile village. Lunch at a local restaurant in the heart of Antigua. After lunch you stop at Casa Popenoe, a mansion of ancient times. Rest of the afternoon at your leisure or walk the streets and visit the markets in search of handmade cloths, weavings and crafts. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Antigua. B,L
Day 3: Chichicastenango, Lake Atitlan...
Morning drive into the Altiplano (highlands) of Chichicastenango, home to one of the most spectacular markets in the Americas. Visit the largest traje (indigenous clothing) and tipica (crafts) market in Central America and Santo Tomas Church, built in 1540. Here Indians practice their faith, blending Mayan and Catholic rituals. After lunch you will transfer to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan where you will have the rest of the afternoon and the evening at leisure. Overnight in Panajachel, 5000 feet above sea level! B
Day 4: Iximche, Guatemala City...
After breakfast we will have an excursion by boat to Santiago Atitlan, a picturesque Mayan Village surrounded by volcanoes and famous for the quality of its textiles and paintings. After lunch your journey continues to Guatemala City with a stop and visit of the post-classic Maya site of Iximche. These ruins are situated in a beautiful forest and also served as the first capital of Guatemala from 1524 to 1527. At Iximche you will be able to appreciate the pyramids, the ball courts where they played their games and the plazas of this city that played a very important part in it's time. You will also have the chance to visit a small museum. Overnight in Guatemala City. B, L
Day 5: Peten/Tikal Excursion...
Today you will you will take an early morning flight into the heart of the Guatemalan jungle hosting the Maya monuments and the pyramids of Tikal. In this remote area, one of the greatest civilizations of its time built a city that lasted for centuries. The site of Tikal is in a National Park where the native flora and fauna still flourish relatively undisturbed. Hundreds of species of birds, including toucans and macaws, and various species of monkeys gliding through the dense vegetation can be seen. After lunch at the ruins, fly back to Guatemala City. Overnight in Guatemala City. B, L
Day 6: Copan (Honduras)...
Morning departure for a scenic drive to Copan in Honduras. Copan is home to the best-preserved ruins of the Mayan world, long protected by the jungle in a remote mountain valley. It boasts some of the finest sculptures and the longest Mayan text ever discovered and was declared patrimony to mankind by UNESCO. Archeologists continue to make amazing discoveries in Copan. Typical Dinner inlcuded. Overnight in Copan. B, D
Day 7: Rio Dulce, Livingston...
After breakfast departure to one of the most beautiful regions in Guatemala: the Rio Dulce. In the Natural Reserve of Rio Dulce which is said to be one of richest areas of flora and fauna in Central America, you will be around several hundreds species of animals and vegetation combined, so prepare for an unforgettable afternoon! Later in the afternoon, you will take a boat to the picturesque Garifuna town of Livingstone on the Caribbean Coast. Overnight at the Hotel Villa Caribe in Livingstone. B, L
Day 8: Day 8: Playa Blanca...
Today you will have an excursion by boat to the private beach of Playa Blanca passing along the waterfall of the 7 altars. Relax and enjoy the white sand beach bordered by palm trees and the warm water of the Caribbean Sea! A box lunch on the beach is included. In the afternoon you return to the hotel in Livingstone. Day 9: Puerto Barrios, Quirigua, Guatemala City...
Depart Livingstone to Puerto Barrios by boat. Then you will visit the archaeological site of Quirigua that is indispensable because of its history connected to Copan. Quirigua also has the biggest Mayan stelaes ever found. Transfer back to Guatemala. Overnight Guatemala City. B
Day 10: Departure Guatemala City ...
Your tour ends this morning at your hotel in Guatemala. Guatemala Travel Mall provides transfers throughout the day to the Guatemala City airport. Thanks for vacationing with Guatemala Travel Mall. ¡Hasta la vista! B
